Watch the speck of light in a cloudy sky and let it be enough to say it was sunny today. See a teenager offer that smiling grandpa a seat on the subway and extrapolate how kind the world can be.
Text your friends for last minute plans and do a little victory dance when they’re free. Put on that new cerulean eyeshadow and tell yourself you look good, let that blue make you feel like tonight could be glorious.
Get buzzed on just sweet enough cocktails and scream lyrics to The Killers and Britney and all those ‘90s songs that make you feel like your youth is infinite.
Dive into your bed way too late and appreciate how cozy your new sheets make you feel, how excited you are for sleeping in the next day.
I know we can’t do this everyday, I know we can’t always forget the suffering. But it’s ok to pause it sometimes. It’s good to enjoy the feeling of freedom, to focus on the hope around us, to indulge in a little bit of wonder. Because when we do, we tap into just a little bit of magic, we forgo our need to do something greater with today.
We let ourselves feel good just for the sake of being alive.
