I spent the month of June living in Amsterdam on a house swap (highly recommend this free way of travelling) and I loved the city. Biking everywhere is top notch, living near water is top notch and a summer month there was perfect. So here are 10 things I noticed about Amsterdam. Did I miss anything important? Probably. Let me know :)
- What’s the deal with the beans, people? So many green beans in everything. Thai food with a full serving of beans in the curry. Surinamese food with half a dish of beans. Indian delivery comes with a side of free beans.
- Nothing is very far and everything is very flat
- This will come as no surprise but bikes own this place. “Get out of my way, pedestrian” “get out of my way, car”. I’m on a bike, I rule this street.
- Is it the legal weed for 50years or is everyone just born very chill?
- Your neighbour will come borrow stuff for a party they’re having, but won’t invite you to pass at said party. Maybe it’s the welcoming Belgian in me, but that’s weird right?
- In my experience, it’s always sunny
- They have a new type of bros guys: boat bros.
- Why on earth would anyone drink a heineken?
- There are 101 ways to ride a bike. You can also always put more people on a bike. Apparently.
- According to our boat bro, around 10 people die by falling into the canal every year. 100% of these people are men trying to pee in the canal.
