10 subjective things about Amsterdam

I spent the month of June living in Amsterdam on a house swap (highly recommend this free way of travelling) and I loved the city. Biking everywhere is top notch, living near water is top notch and a summer month there was perfect. So here are 10 things I noticed about Amsterdam. Did I miss anything important? Probably. Let me know :)

  1. What’s the deal with the beans, people? So many green beans in everything. Thai food with a full serving of beans in the curry. Surinamese food with half a dish of beans. Indian delivery comes with a side of free beans.
  2. Nothing is very far and everything is very flat
  3. This will come as no surprise but bikes own this place. “Get out of my way, pedestrian” “get out of my way, car”. I’m on a bike, I rule this street.
  4. Is it the legal weed for 50years or is everyone just born very chill?
  5. Your neighbour will come borrow stuff for a party they’re having, but won’t invite you to pass at said party. Maybe it’s the welcoming Belgian in me, but that’s weird right?
  6. In my experience, it’s always sunny
  7. They have a new type of bros guys: boat bros.
  8. Why on earth would anyone drink a heineken?
  9. There are 101 ways to ride a bike. You can also always put more people on a bike. Apparently.
  10. According to our boat bro, around 10 people die by falling into the canal every year. 100% of these people are men trying to pee in the canal.
